Something funny happened at my father-in-laws yesterday. His short term memory is fading fast- but he IS going to be 94 this week. I am helping him with the bookkeeping and the desk is downstairs near the wet bar. Since I am closest, he asks me to check on his scotch supply before we head upstairs. I don't even remember where it is, but find it and sure enough, it is almost empty. A half hour later when a group is assembling to run errands- I bring up the liquor store and he gives me a funny look. "Remember, you are out of scotch" I say. "And how do you know THAT?!" he asks without missing a beat, his good eye twinkling. He is grinning by the time he hears himself say it, so I'll never know if he remembers asking me to check the inventory or not. Now I'm wondering if I might as well start to indulge! #1) He may suspect anyway after today, and #2) Will it give me as sharp a sense of humor when I'M 94!?
